Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 50 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 5 minutes Yields: 6-8 serving
Ingredients
10 oz. white sandwich bread ( usually ½ of a whole loaf)
3 cups shredded Swiss cheese or cheddar cheese or cheese of your choice
2 cups diced ham
4 eggs
2 cups of milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
Salt to taste
½ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Cooking spray or butter (to grease the baking dish)
Directions
Coat the bottom and sides of a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
Cut the bread slices into 2-inch cubes and evenly spread them in the baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, thyme, onion powder, garlic powder, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all the bread is soaked.
Evenly sprinkle the diced ham and shredded cheese on top of the bread mixture, pressing down gently to submerge everything.
Cover the baking dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Bake bread pudding, uncovered, 45 to 50 minutes or until puffed and golden brown and knife inserted into center comes out clean.
Garnish, if desired and then cut into squares.
