Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 30 minutes

Total time: 40 minutes Yields: 4 serving

Ingredients

baked turkey stormboli
  • 1 (8 ounce) package Pillsbury refrigerated classic pizza crust

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup pizza sauce

  • 1 cup cooked turkey, sliced or shredded

  • 12 slices of pepperoni (optional)

  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese, or mozzarella

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degree F (204 degree C).

  2. Prepare the dough: Remove the pizza dough from the container and roll it out onto a floured work surface. Stretch it slightly to smooth out any creases.

  3. Cut the dough: Divide the dough lengthwise and crosswise into 4 equal sections.

  4. Assemble the Stromboli: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over each section of dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges.

    • Layer the fillings: Place the turkey in a single layer over the sauce, then sprinkle evenly with shredded cheese.

    • Optional step: Add pepperoni slices over the cheese.

  5. Roll the Stromboli: Starting from one side, roll each section tightly into a spiral. Place the Strombolis on a large baking sheet, seam side down. Make diagonal slashes across the top of each Stromboli to allow steam to escape.

  6. Bake: Brush the tops with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Bake for 28-33 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.

  7. Cool and serve: Allow the Stromboli to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with additional pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes:

  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses! Provolone, mozzarella, or even pepper jack can add extra flavor. You can also use a combination of cheeses for a richer taste.

  • Vegetable Add-ins: Incorporate extra vegetables to boost nutrition and flavor. Sautéed bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, or even olives can be great additions. Just be sure to drain excess moisture from veggies to prevent a soggy Stromboli.

  • Herbs and Spices: Add fresh herbs like basil or oregano to the filling for added flavor. A sprinkle of Italian seasoning can also elevate the taste.

  • Freezing Instructions: You can make Stromboli ahead of time and freeze it before baking. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. When ready to bake, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then bake as directed.

  • Cooking Tips: For a crispier crust, place the Stromboli directly on a pizza stone or a preheated baking sheet. If you want a golden color on the crust, brush it lightly with olive oil before baking.
