Ingredients
¼ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup yellow mustard
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 (8 ounce) loaf Cuban bread
8 slices Swiss cheese
6 thin slices smoked fully-cooked ham
1⁄4 cup Italian salami, slice thinly
1 large dill pickle, sliced thinly lengthwise
2 tablespoons butter, or as needed
Directions
Prepare the Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, mustard, and cayenne pepper. Set aside.
Prepare the Bread:
Slice the loaf of Cuban bread into 4 equal pieces, then slice each piece lengthwise.
Spread butter on the outside of each half and spread the mustard mixture on the inside of each half.
Assemble the Sandwiches:
Divide the ingredients evenly between the two bottom halves of the bread in the following order:
2 slices of Swiss cheese
3 slices of smoked ham
A layer of Italian salami
Pickle slices
2 more slices of Swiss cheese
Place the top halves of the bread on each sandwich.
Cook the Sandwiches:
Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
Place the sandwiches in the skillet and press down with a heavy weight, such as another skillet or foil-wrapped bricks.
Toast the sandwiches until the bread is crisp and the filling is heated through, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
Serve:
Remove from the skillet and let cool slightly.
Slice and serve warm.
