Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 20 minutes

Total time: 30 minutes Yields: 3-4 serving

Ingredients

ham, peas, spaghetti cooked with a cream sauce
  • 8 oz. spaghetti

  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter

  • 1 ½ cup cooked ham chopped into bite size pieces

  • ½ medium onion

  • 4 clove garlic minced

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup half and half

  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 cup frozen sweet peas

  • 1 cup pasta water (optional)

  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; drain and set aside.

  2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until slightly translucent.

  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

  4. Whisk in the flour and cook until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Gradually add the half and half to the saucepan, whisking constantly until the mixture is thickened and smooth.

  5. Stir in the diced ham, grated Parmesan cheese, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and frozen peas. Cook until the cheese has melted and the ham is heated through, about 3-4 minutes.

  6. Add cooked pasta and toss gently in the sauce until coated. If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash of pasta water.

  7. Season with additional salt and pepper, to taste.
